2017-18 Season Elfrid Payton Orlando Magic #2 Association White Swingman Jersey

Throughout the season, the MLBPipeline.com staff will name Pipeline Prospective customers of the Week — one hitter and another pitcher who excelled over the previous seven days. To get selection, a player must ranking among their organization’s Best 20 Prospects, as from our Prospect Watch.

Pipeline Hitting Prospect of every week: Corey Seager, SS, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (Dodgers No. 1 prospect), 7 G, 16-for-29 (.552/.567/.931), 1.498 OPS, 2 HR, 8 RBI

The Eighteenth overall pick in the This year First-Year Player Draft, Seager signed with regard to $2.35 million and had not an issue handling older pitching on his first two pro ceases. That prompted the Dodgers in promoting the shortstop to Class The Advanced Rancho Cucamonga last August. He struggled mightily there (.160/.246/.320), and after that as the youngest player in the Arizona Fall League over the offseason.

Seager has made adjustments since returning to the California League when he was 19 this April. From a solid first month, he has really heated up in Could, batting 444/.495/.733. He now leads the actual Minor Leagues with 20 doubles and the Cal Little league in hitting (.371), OPS (One particular.030) extra-base hits (28) and entire bases (107).

Seager has a higher ceiling than his older sibling, Kyle, a third baseman who has been probably the most consistent performer in the Ocean adventurers lineup the last three months. A 6-foot-4, 215-pounder with strength plus a smooth left-handed swing, Corey should reach for both power and common. He’s probably too big to settle at shortstop for much longer, although he profiles well with third base, where he or she is a plus defender.

Pipeline Pestering Prospect of the Week: Francellis Montas, RHP, Winston-Salem Dash (Bright Sox No. 16 prospect), 1-0, A single.13 ERA, 1 GS, 7 IP, 2 H, A single R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 11 SO

Montas has made up with regard to lost time since absent April after minor leg surgery to repair a meniscus rip. One of the hardest throwers in the Bright Sox system, he has surrendered at most two runs in any connected with his four starts from Class A Advanced Winston-Salem. Their last outing was the best, as he carried a new no-hitter into the seventh inning Thursday from Salem and struck out a new season-high 11 in a 6-3 victory.

Montas has the highest upside of the three Minor Leaguers whom Chicago attained from the Red Sox in the three-team deal that sent Jake Peavy in order to Boston last July. Their fastball hit 100 mph while he was 18 years old, despite the fact that he has to tone down his rate to throw strikes, this individual still deals at 91-95 mph and peaks at Ninety-seven on a regular basis.

The 21-year-old has yet to showcase consistency with any of his secondary pitches, which could create a future in the bullpen. But in a little sample size so far in 2010, his control has been wonderful, and the White Sox will keep him or her in the rotation as long as they may.
