ANAHEIM — Clayton Kershaw was nails in Australia, but there is no telling when he will make his second start of the time of year: The Dodgers said their ace will open the season about the disabled list.
Kershaw felt anything in his upper back while participating in long toss, on the 27th throw of Weekend afternoon, according to manager Add Mattingly.
The pang came as Kershaw progressed to throwing a little further, in the roughly 50 feet or so at which he started playing hook to roughly 100 feet.
‘He felt it that final throw, and at that point most of us knew he couldn’t go any farther,’ Mattingly said.
‘I’m not necessarily going to get into specifics,Inch Kershaw said. ‘I can’t pitch at the moment. It’s frustrating. I’ve been hurt before where I realized when I’d be able to toss. I’m getting better right now, merely fast enough.’
On Wednesday, Kershaw was nicked from starting Sunday evening of domestic opener because of a great inflamed teres major muscle, which usually stabilizes the upper arm near to the upper back. Now, he also can miss his projected commence for the home opener contrary to the Giants on Friday.
While the Dodgers maintain they are not concerned, they also know the ceiling for Kershaw’s recent workload when they see it. Plus they believe placing him around the DL is the smart thing to do.
Especially with four off-days within this element of the schedule’s first 13 days, no fifth starter needed right up until April 19.
‘We’ve got to help save Clayton from Clayton at this point,’ Mattingly stated. ‘If it was up to him, I’m certain he’d want to go farther [in working to come back quickly].’
‘We’re going to guard him from him, and stay cautious.’
The move means that Hyun-Jin Ryu, slated to start Sunday’s mainland season operator against the Padres, will also slide to the home opener start on Comes to an end. Then, Josh Beckett likely will start contrary to the Giants on Saturday.
‘You never feel like you’re a part of the team when you’re hurt,’ Kershaw said. ‘It’s not a good feeling.’
Kershaw would be permitted come off of the disabled checklist early the following week — the move is backdated to Drive 23 — but the Dodgers are making virtually no promises about when he will certainly pitch again. Mainly, as there is little urgency in the year’s first few weeks given the spate of off-days, and because they want to remain ultra-conservative and make certain Kershaw is right when he returns.
Tests the 2009 week showed the blocked upper back muscle, behind the left shoulder. Mattingly said he does not know of any more tests appointed as of now.
‘We know what it is,In . he said. ‘We’re not concerned of which he’s going to do any damage to the idea.’
