‘[Reds vice president associated with scouting and international operations] Bill Bavasi was the guy who orchestrated everything from our ballclub with [agent] Barry Praver with his fantastic group of representatives,’ Jocketty mentioned. ‘It was really based on the valuation individuals scouts. It’s the same group of folks that went to see Chapman. I guarantee you that they discovered [Iglesias] more than any other club.’
Once Iglesias includes a visa, Cincinnati expects he can first be sent to the corporation’s academy in the Dominican Republic to acquire acclimated. Where he will begin in the Minor League technique has yet to be determined, although he could be sent to the Az Fall League after this season.
‘We’ll see. We’ll try to advancement to that point,’ Jocketty mentioned.
As a smaller-market club, the Reds have long avoided generating significant free-agent expenditures, but they haven’t been afraid to get creative to discover talent like Iglesias and Chapman.
‘It’s the way we feel we have to do our business. It’s why it is vital we have the strong searching staff that we have,’ Jocketty stated.
If he can transition successfully to your starting role, Iglesias will be a part of a deep talent of fresh pitching in the organization. It already has top prospective buyers such as right-handers Robert Stephenson and Jordan Lorenzen, as well as the University of Virginia’s Chips Howard, who was selected in the initial round of the 2014 First-Year Player Write and has not yet signed. There’s also left-hander Tony Cingrani.
At the big level, your club already has Ashley Cueto, Mat Latos, Mike Leake and Homer Bailey. Cueto, Latos and Leake are nearing free agency, while Bailey was authorized to a six-year, $105 million deal in January.
